In 1807, Robert Carter became the first black person to own a slave. Carter had been working as a slave for the Master Fenton until he became successful in the early 1800s.
Carter became successful in able to free his slave and give him to another master. He did this in 1807, when he bought a slave for $5 from a Master Fenton.
Carter was successful in creating a new society where slaves were free and his was the best treatment. He was proud to have been an example for others.
